assault on the bridges at Arnhem and Nijmegen and the sad lack of urgency demonstrated by
the High Command. Author served as a subaltern in the Irish Guards.
Brian Wilson served with the Irish Guards in the Guards Armoured Division in North-West Europe
in 1944. Both his parents came from Dublin and emigrated after the Great War to Penang in the
former Straits Settlements, where his father was a solicitor and where Brian was born.
At the age of six, he returned to Dublin and completed his education in England.
At the end of the Second World War, he read Law at Oxford and entered H.M. Overseas Civil Service,
serving in Hong Kong from 1948 to 1983. He now lives in Western Australia.
