On 20 october 1944 the residents of the old peoples home "Mooi-Land",
Utrechtseweg Doorwerth, got the order to leave the house. The next 3 days
over 100 old people were evacuated and the house became a detention house,
called "Lager Scharnhorst".
A group of men, arrested in the city "Hilversum" were detained here and had
to dig trenches and build fortifications in the area.
There was no water, no heating, no electricity and barely food.
It was most dangerous work because of the bombardments coming from the south of the
river Rhine. Several workers managed to escape and hide in safe-houses.
